What We Fund:
- Not-for-profit, IRS tax-exempt, national, regional, state and local dance service and certain other organizations (e.g., festivals, councils, alliances, associations, guild, arts center) whose programs and activities have a broad and significant impact on the field.
- Unusual and imaginative efforts which clearly demonstrate and promote the value of the art form in all of its manifestations – ballet, modern, avant-garde, ethnic, show-dance, jazz, tap…
- Programs or projects which bring together different interest groups to share information, strengthen management practices, solve common problems, and improve communications.
- Special pilot projects which meet clearly identified and unmet needs, and which have the potential to provide a model for the field.
What We Do Not Fund:
- Individual dance companies, dancers, choreographers, dance schools or teachers.
- Organizations for which dance does not appear to be a program priority.
- Programs or projects which do not have an immediate and substantial impact on American dance and dancers.
- Programs or projects which lack a sound overall design, a realistic plan of action, and convincing evidence of strong management and fiscal responsibility.
- Endowments, cash reserved or capital fund drives.
- The Capezio Dance Foundation Inc. will consider requests for program, project and general operating support only. It does not provide in-kind, technical or consulting assistance to the field.
Grant Application Guidelines
Requests may be submitted in letter or short proposal form. They must be concise (no more than two pages), typewritten on the organization’s letterhead and signed by the chief executive office, board chair or an authorized, ranking staff member. Please keep in mind that the resources of the Foundation are limited and that the majority of grants range from $500 to $1000.
Application should include:
- The amount of money requested.
- The specific dance needs to be met.
- A brief description of the program or project, its purpose, and how, when and to what extent the specific American dance audience or constituency will be served.
- Background and Supporting Information:
- Brief history of the organization.
- Qualifications of key artistic and administrative personnel.
- A list of bard members and their affiliations.
- The program or project budget, including other sources of support in-hand or anticipated.
- A copy of the total current operating budget, including all sources of earned, contributed and in-kind income.
- A copy of the IRS 501 (c)(3) or other tax-exemption ruling.
Important note: Please keep application packages small and proposals brief and to the point. Include only the most pertinent supporting information and do not send videotapes or other promotional materials.
Grant Review and Notification Process
Deadline for proposals is April 1. Applicants whose proposals do not fall within current guidelines, criteria or program priorities will be notified by mail. Applications received after the deadline will be rejected regardless of postmark.
The trustees meet soon there after to review and act on all recommended requests for the calender year.
Grants are awarded in the spring, generally no later than June 30. Please do not call the Foundation office regarding the status of your proposal.
Capepzio Dance Foundation Inc. expects its support to be acknowledged in writing and credited on all programs, press material, brochures, etc. It also expects a one-page report describing the results of funded programs or projects. Applicants not complying with these procedures will be ineligible for future support. Proposals and other correspondence should be addressed to:
