Medium Size Dance Shoes
FAQ
Ballet slippers are used for ballet classes, while pointe shoes are reserved for pointe work. Jazz shoes are common in jazz training and choreography. Tap shoes feature metal taps, and dance sneakers are often worn for hip-hop and other studio styles. Follow your instructor’s footwear requirements for each class.
Dance shoes commonly feature leather, canvas, stretch fabrics, or synthetic uppers. Soles may include suede, leather, or rubber, depending on the dance style. Linings and elastic panels vary by construction.
A full-sole shoe has a continuous outsole running between the forefoot and heel. A split-sole shoe has separate forefoot and heel outsole sections, with no outsole covering the arch. Both constructions appear in dance footwear, depending on the style.
Follow the care instructions for the shoe’s materials. Leather uppers can often be wiped with a soft, slightly damp cloth, while canvas may require gentle spot cleaning. Do not machine wash unless the care instructions allow it. Let shoes air-dry away from direct heat.
Remove dance shoes from your bag after class and let them air out before storing them. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use a separate shoe compartment or breathable shoe bag to keep footwear apart from dancewear and accessories.
